It's no longer summer, but not quite fall. We’re packing up swimsuits, but not ready to unpack Halloween costumes. The opposite of March, September is a month of transitions, coming in like a sauna (especially this year!) and out like an autumn breeze.
September is the month of flannel shirts, football, and finger food.
Even though the big holidays are still a few months away, September is the month we give ourselves permission to start getting into the spirit of the season. And for restaurants, that means hunkering down with mouthwatering Sunday football delivery specials, creating make-life-easy back-to-school meal kits, and getting your name out to hungry college students looking for local take-out and delivery.
The month begins with the season’s last hurray, as Labor Day barbeques all over the nation work overtime, grilling up summer’s favorites one last time. But there’s still more sizzle to September with the 10th celebrating the all-American hot dog, the 18th honoring the cheeseburger, a year-round favorite, and the 22nd, on the first day of autumn, paying tribute to the beloved ice cream cone.
And though it’s not an actual holiday, for restaurants, the start of regular NFL football marks the beginning of game day season, one of the biggest revenue opportunities for food delivery. This year, the Bills meet the Rams on Thursday night, September 8th, followed by the first Sunday games on September 11th.
So, mark your calendars, follow your local team’s schedule, and create specials and promos geared toward scoring points with your customers.
And while you should start getting prepared for the holidays, (they’ll be here before you know it) September has many more food-centric holidays around which you can plan some fun social media content, early fall menu specials, and low-cost online marketing strategies.
